Sistering is a volunteer program for women who have experienced violence, trauma or other forms of oppression. The Sisters are at a stage in their personal healing journey where they are able to offer support, through mentorship, to other women who would benefit from having another woman journey with them during their healing process.
This program offers initial and ongoing volunteer training process which includes paraprofessional skills development, opportunities for personal growth and creation of a supportive community through leadership.
Volunteer Mentoring Sisters are then matched one-to-one with a woman who has experienced violence, trauma or another form of oppression. The Mentoring Sister accompanies her as she begins or continues her healing. The Sistering Program is over 17 years old and has been a celebration of the power of healing in a supportive relationship.
The Sistering Program also sponsors workshops for the community on a variety of topics relevant to personal and communal wellness. Our Sisters speak regularly to:
