About Our Program
PAR is typically offered for men in a group format. Some participants in the program may be offered individual counselling. This is normally the format for the female participants due to a low number of referrals to the program. Groups are co-facilitated by a male and female team.
Our Multicultural PAR Groups
Our
five multicultural groups take place in Brampton on Tuesday and
Wednesday evenings, in Mississauga on Tuesday mornings and Wednesday
evenings, and in Orangeville on Wednesday evenings. These five groups
operate in English. We are assisted by cultural translators with
clients who are more comfortable in another language.
Our South Asian PAR
Our South Asian PAR group was started with the partnership of India Rainbow Community Services. The group takes place on Tuesday evenings and operates in three languages simultaneously (Punjabi, Hindi and Urdu). The program addresses cultural themes and makes use of culturally relevant materials and media to explore the understanding of violence in intimate relationships.
Group Readiness
In keeping with the Provincial PAR program standards our PAR group program aims to enhance safety for victims of violence and to assist in holding perpetrators of violence accountable for their actions. Clients who are unwilling to acknowledge their own actions which lead to their coming to attend a PAR program will be offered individual counselling through the agency's general counselling services to help prepare them to enter the PAR program. These sessions are offered independent of a PAR enrolment and will not assist you to fulfill probation or bail conditions related to domestic violence offenses.
Client access service through our Casework team. This session helps to determine whether the PAR program is suitable and if other services may be required.
A client may be ordered into the program by the legal system. A mandating agency will be provided with letters of confirmation, completion and/or enrollment withdrawal.
Self Referral
Any client not involved in a court process can voluntarily enter the program.
Other Referrals
A
client may be referred to the program by clergy, social worker,
counsellor, friend, spouse, parter, etc. His signed consent is required
to send an follow-up documentation to referring person or agency.
